PAP 3b result: what does it mean?
PAP 3b means that more abnormal cells have been found. This is more serious than PAP 3a, but it is still a precancerous stage, not cancer.
What does PAP 3b mean?
PAP 3b is a result of your smear test indicating that more abnormal cells were found than with PAP 3a. The abnormalities are more severe and often correspond to CIN 2 or CIN 3 upon biopsy. This is a precancerous stage, not cancer, but it is important to act quickly.
The regular treatment path for PAP 3b
With PAP 3b, the gynecologist will generally recommend treatment. The regular path includes:
- Colposcopy and biopsy: To determine the exact CIN grade.
- LEEP procedure or conization: For CIN 2/3, the gynecologist often recommends surgical treatment where the abnormal tissue is removed.
- Follow-up: Regular check-ups are scheduled after the procedure.
Can HPV Health help with PAP 3b?
This depends on the CIN result and the gynecologist's policy:
- For CIN 2 with watchful waiting: Escharotic treatment and immune system strengthening can be used as complementary support. The check-ups with your gynecologist remain leading.
- For CIN 3: Gynecological treatment is necessary. We can, however, provide additional support, strengthen the immune system before and after the procedure, and address the HPV virus.
After the LEEP procedure
An important fact: the HPV virus is not always gone after a LEEP procedure. Research shows that in 10-25% of cases, the surgical margins are not free of abnormal cells, and HPV can remain persistently present. This is a moment where additional support, alongside your gynecologist's check-ups, can be considered.
